In my opinion, many who wear the title "Baptist" are only Protestants wearing a fundamentalist cloak. Many Protestants seem to need to be "baptistic," which describes some of their position. Then they need to further explain their brand of fundamentalism since it is a flexible designation of Christian position. They then go on to claim independency which generally means a church is not loyally bound in a corporate association (be it called fellowship, convention, association, league, etc.). however, most of these who pastor such churches are emotionally, mentally, socially, etc. attached to some such corporate structure. Hence, their church is attached by proxy. Next they claim fundamentalism, which means a more literal approach to Bible interpretation but generally in Protestant theological tradition. Then they claim pre-millennialism which basically means pre-70th week of Daniel rapture. Then they claim to be King James version. Some now do not claim all of these or may claim somewhat different issues.
Now why am I just a "Baptist?" Because in my opinion Baptist needs no other designation. It is fully sufficient as it is. Baptists have always historically been, not independent as today's designation means, but unaffiliated, truly not affiliated with any association emotionally, financially, mentally or socially. Also, Baptists are more than just fundamental. They hold to literalness and not traditional Protestantism in a "fundamental" view or position. Baptists hold to pre-millennialism. In my "intense" studies of the of the past five to six years an "at any moment" rapture is clearly taught and has been since Christ's day. All the modern questioning of this issue is seen leading Protestants to a post-millennial present-day millennium of Christian "spiritual Israel" reconstructionism. I do not hold to this doctrine/theory, neither have Historic Baptist churches. Baptists hold to the KJV. I do not see saying so as necessary. It goes without saying that Historic Baptists have always held to God's only inspired word in the language of their nation and the KJV is the only accurate translation in English.
Why am I just a Baptist? Because Baptist says it all for me.
