"The traditional missionary method" is where the missionary establishes a 'preaching point'; he goes and picks up everyone; he leads the singing; he preaches; he takes everyone home; he builds them a church building and he pays a salary to the young man called to preach." "The missionary who is determined to establish an indigenous congregation might be thought of as 'heartless' because he will not build a building for those poor Christians; he will not help a poor, struggling pastor with a salary; or he will not help better the underprivileged and suffering ones. The missionary believes it is the indigenous church's responsibility to do those things. God is just as faithful to provide their needs as He is to provide ours when we put His kingdom first (Matt. 6:33, Phil. 4:19)."
"There is a lack of responsibility produced in the national Christian when the missionary centers the work on himself and what he has to offer. The work is not truly of the Lord with the Lord as Head when the missionary, a mere man, is indispensable."
"The real proof of a missionary's work is not what happens while he is there, but the work that goes on when he is gone."
"The activities of converts should not center around the missionary but instead around the church."
Missionaries feel that they should hold positions of leadership because of their pride. They think they are much smarter, have more wisdom, or would not make as many mistakes. Present the responsibility to the infant church and let the Holy Spirit raise men to assume those responsibilities. Make it clear that no work will get done unless they do it, but stand behind them to help and teach them."
The missionary must develop a clear concept of the purpose of his own ministry so he will not step off into the national Christian's field of responsibility."
